The best way to gain these skills and also a requirement for certification is to earn first your Bachelor’s and eventually your Master’s degree. While some employers will accept employees for this position if they have a Bachelor’s degree in a Behavioral Science field along with related experience.

It is highly advisable to continue your studies until you have your Master’s degree. The two Master’s degree programs that applicable to this career are the Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Health Science (MHS) degrees. These presuppose that you have earned a Bachelor’s degree in a highly related field such as Health Sciences, Public Health, Nursing or Biology.

Once you have your Master’s degree you will be able to pursue additional certification and become a Certified Health Education Specialist. This requires that you meet certain standards and pass the CHES exam and the rest of the credentialing process that is provided by the National Commission for Health Educator Credentialing.
